Let's talk Vulnerability
Courage means allowing ourselves to be vulnerable.
Brené Brown, a research Professor, defines vulnerability as “uncertainty, risk and emotional exposure.” Brené said that “vulnerability is the birthplace of love, belonging, joy, courage, empathy and creativity”. She said, “I spent a lot of years trying to outrun or outsmart vulnerability by making things certain and definite, black and white, good and bad”.
The reality is that we tend to cut ourselves off from our birthright to abundance, connection and joy, when we don’t take emotional risks. Instead we think in black and white ways, stay in our comfort zones, numb ourselves out, or try to control our environments or other people. We may demand things from other people to try to get our needs met from them, and get angry or hurt when they don’t meet our expectations or needs. If we open up to our vulnerabilities, we may ultimately let the love that we crave - in, the very thing we are fearful of receiving, due to outdated childhood memories, that perhaps live in the shadows.

The Journey Starts from Within
I have Asperger's, chronic physical illness, and have been diagnosed with Bipolar and anxiety, which I have had all of my life and have seen countless counsellors and psychologists over the years, and no-one compares to Melissa who understood my symptoms to be associated with trauma, and I felt heard and validated. She was also caring and honest, and I began to feel clarity and more in control of my life. Thank you!

I have been seeing Melissa for around 6 months now and I can honestly say it has been one of the best experiences I have ever had with a counsellor. I have previously attended counselling with other practitioners for childhood trauma and resulting adult relationship difficulties however have genuinely not had the same level of emotional success as I have the past 6 months. Melissa has always treated me with such respect, empathy, genuine kindness, in a non-judgmental way that no matter what I have spoken with her about, I have always felt supported and heard. I have managed to make really difficult but necessary life changes as a DIRECT result of her work and am now in a much healthier, happier place as a result. I am forever grateful for the opportunity to have been counselled by Melissa and am sincerely thankful for where my life is now heading. Words do not do justice but I simply can not recommend Melissa enough!

I had been seeing Mel for over 2 years both face to face and then on the phone when I moved overseas. She has helped me become aware of my limits from childhood and overcome some of the blocks that were associated with my mum and family. I learned to see what my values were and I felt more aware of who I was and could allow myself to grieve and then let go of things that weren't working for me. She is a game changer!
